Today, Dr. Mahmood announced the endorsement of Congressman Ro Khanna and Los Angeles Councilmember David Ryu in his race for Insurance Commissioner.
“Dr. Asif Mahmood is a trailblazer for immigrants and people of color, and is a true example of the American dream,” said Congressman Khanna. “He immigrated to the United States from Pakistan for a better opportunity and has worked hard to earn his successes. Mahmood takes care of his patients even if they don’t have insurance, and regardless of their immigration status or sexual orientation. I am proud to endorse Dr. Asif Mahmood to be California’s next Insurance Commissioner.”
“Dr. Mahmood is a long time advocate of universal access to healthcare and equality, and will fight to make sure that Californians have equal access to care- regardless of gender identity or immigration status,” said Councilmember Ryu. “I’m endorsing Asif Mahmood to be California’s next Insurance Commissioner because we need someone who will fight for our communities and not the special interests.”
Dr. Mahmood grew up in rural Pakistan, where his school could not afford chairs or desks. His father’s dream was to become a doctor, but he was forced to leave school and support his family at a young age. He passed that dream onto his son, and Asif worked hard in school– eventually becoming the first student from his village to score high enough on exams to attend medical school.
Dr Mahmood has fought to achieve his American Dream and wants to make sure that others have the same opportunity. He wants to make sure that, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race or immigration status– everyone has access to affordable, accessible and quality health care. He will defend all of our communities against Donald Trump’s discriminatory attacks.
