Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs Endorses Doctor Asif Mahmood for Insurance Commissioner

“Dr. Mahmood is a career-long physician with unrivaled knowledge of the insurance industry and its problems. He will stand up to companies that are nickel-and-diming the people of Stockton and California. I encourage everyone to vote for Dr. Mahmood, and look forward to working with him once he is elected.” — Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs

Today Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs announced his endorsement of Doctor Asif Mahmood for Insurance Commissioner.

“I am thrilled to announce my support for Dr. Asif Mahmood in his campaign for Insurance Commissioner,” said Mayor Tubbs. “Dr. Mahmood is a career-long physician with unrivaled knowledge of the insurance industry and its problems. He will stand up to companies that are nickel-and-diming the people of Stockton and California. I encourage everyone to vote for Dr. Mahmood, and look forward to working with him once he is elected.”

Dr. Mahmood has worked as a doctor of internal medicine for almost two decades, serving countless patients in his practice and at free clinics. After seeing the struggle of so many Californians who are unable to afford care, Dr. Mahmood made it a rule in his hospital practice — if a patient doesn’t have insurance, his office won’t ask for payment.

He supports a Medicare for All system, and believes we need to protect the Affordable Care Act from Donald Trump’s attacks. He believes health care is a human right, and he will fight to broaden our limited definition of what healthcare includes: women’s health care, mental health care, and children’s health care.
