“I refuse to applaud members of Congress for funding the Children’s Health Insurance Program, because they have failed to extend the Community Health Center Fund,” said Dr. Mahmood. “I have volunteered at community health clinics throughout my career, and I know how crucial they are in the lives of families around this state and country. If members of Congress don’t wake up soon, hundreds of thousands of people could lose access to essential health services, and thousands more will lose their jobs entirely.
“We cannot wait until February 8 for Congress to act. Many of these centers could run out of funding before then. To California’s members of Congress — I’m getting on the phone and you should expect my call.”
Dr. Mahmood announced last week that he has switched his campaign from Lieutenant Governor to Insurance Commissioner because of his career-long dedication to helping Californians get access to high-quality healthcare. Even in his initial announcement, Dr. Mahmood called out Donald Trump and GOP for using children’s healthcare as a political football.
As Insurance Commissioner, Dr. Mahmood has pledged to stand up for California children’s healthcare.
